USSR Week (16-20/7/12)
‘Reading is to the Mind, what Exercise is to the Body’.
Reading is like depositing money in a savings account. The benefits compound
themselves like interest’. Who can question the pleasures and benefits of the
most dignified human relaxation – Reading?
Orchids insists on USSR (Uninterrupted Self Sustained
Reading) periodically when each student of every class gets engaged in reading
during a specified time. It is a pleasure to watch the productive silence of
reading spread in each and every class. This is followed by a book fair. The
entire school is involved in it.

Mother and Child Competition (14/7/2012)
Competitions, individual or as a team, teach us much leaving
an indelible impression on us. Some offer immense pleasure of participation
combined with learning experience. Such is the one organized in Orchids on 14th July, 2012.
‘Mother and Child’ formed quite an understanding team to
make ‘Best out of Waste’ and many students
of classes I-X, participated in the contest cheerfully with mothers beside,
guiding them to implement their plan of work efficiently on time. It was a delight
to the spectators watching them at work with many things that cannot be thought
useful but which went into the making of precious, artistic objects which were
judged by our Principal, Mrs. Mona Mehdi who herself is an artist and our Art
teacher, Mr. B. Santosh Kumar.

The National Day of France (13/7/12)
In view of the second Saturday falling on July 14, French
students of Orchids celebrated the National Day of France on July 13.
The morning assembly was devoted to celebrations of
the National Day of France.
Ramya Priya Donthi Reddy of class IX and Deepak J.C.
of class X compered the programme which began with a PowerPoint presentation by
students of class X – Sumasri kolamala and Manisha D.C. The presentation was
quite informative with the details of the first storming of the Bastille on
July 14, 1789. That was the beginning of the French revolution that brought about
radical changes in the history of France. The presentation further informed the
significance of the Tricolor flag which symbolized Liberty, Equality and
Fraternity for all French citizens and how the French National Day is
celebrated in France.
The students of class VII brought to the stage items
that constitute French breakfast. The kids of class II danced to a song of La
Fontain, ‘La Fourmi et la cigale’. ‘La Marseillaise’, the National Anthem of
France followed by the Indian National Anthem closed the special assembly of
the day.
