Farewell Party (25/2/2013)
Saying goodbye…. A last farewell, saying adieu, goodbye,
adios, au revoir, etc…. they may be said in different ways but they all have
the same meaning! On the last day of their school life, the 10th
graders of our school got their farewell on 25thFebruary. The Farewell was called ‘Spotlight’. It
started off with a welcome speech given by two students of Class IX. Then we
had the ramp walk and had the 10th graders talk about their journey
through out their school life!
This was followed by an award ceremony. Each one was given
an individual award. The titles of Mr
and Mrs Orchids were given to Sai Rohit and Archana Dinesh respectively. A
dance was performed by the 9th class girls. Our principal Mrs Mona
Mehdi then addressed a few words to the students and stressed about the
importance of values learned at school and wished them good luck for the
future. It was a very inspirational and motivating speech.
We later had the cake cutting ceremony. Last but not the
least, a video based on the 13 years of their school life was shown. In the
end, another video, prepared by the students of Class 10, about saving the girl
child was also screened. It had all of us in tears.
It was an emotional, fun-filled afternoon and, we know that
we’re going to miss them a lot!

Annual Sports Day
The Annual
Sports Day, 2013 of Orchids-The
International School was held on February
5, 2013, at the GHMC Stadium of Chandanagar. Mr V.V.S.Laxman, the Padma
Shri award recipient was the Chief Guest. The dignitaries present were Chairman,
Mr M. Venkatanarayana, Executive Director Mr M.Sc. Srikanth and Secretary Mr
K.R.K.Reddy,
The programme
started with the ceremonial Guard of Honour and March Past by the four Houses
of the school- Carnation, Daffodil, Marigold and Tulip. The Chief Guest hoisted
the school flag, declared the Sports Meet open and administered oath to the
students. The torch-lighting ceremony inaugurated the Sports and Games of the
day.
The Principal of
Orchids, Mrs Mona Mehdi submitted the Annual Report and emphasized that the
objective is to make all the students of the school participate in all the
events. It is enthusiasm which makes participation successful.
The classical dance
depicting the birth of Lord Vigneswara enthralled the audience and lent beauty
and charm to the major event of the school. The displays of Yoga, Gymnastics and Taekwondo kept the
audience spellbound.
Events such as Drill, March Past, track-events which included 100m, 200m,
400m, 4x100m relay for boys and girls of V-X were some of the highlights of the
day. The children of classes PP I- II took part in Elephant race, Rabbit race,
Cinderella race and Santa Claus race. The students of classes III & IV
entertained the audience with Joker race. Flower pick-up race of class V students
was a delight to watch with girls in Kashmiri costumes.
‘Fusion’ of classical and western dances ultimately focusing its
attention on the trauma and agony females are presently subjected to was
spectacular and message-oriented. It culminated in optimism that girls and
boys, men and women will enjoy equal rights and privileges in the society which
allows everyone to live with dignity.
The school’s new Logo, ‘Indian education, International approach’ was
released with balloons and fire-works.
Prizes were given away by the Chief Guest. R. Raja Rithvik, the Asian
Chess champ, a student of class IV in Orchids, was honoured on this occasion.
Alka Paturi of class X, 2012 was given ‘Meritorious award’ for securing GPA of
10 in X Board Examination. The House Trophy was won by Carnation House for its
performance during the year and on the Sports Day.
The Chief Guest addressed the students and gave an inspirational speech. He
laid emphasis on the importance of sports and games and on cherishing the
inherent passion which if practiced helps to reach the goal.
The Closing Ceremony
which included the lowering of the School Flag was attended by the Principal,
Head Boy and four House Captains.
That which begins has
to come to a close for it to begin again.

Dental Check-Up Camp (13/2/13)
Orchids
continues in its endeavour to create awareness towards health and dental
hygiene among the students. A dental camp was organized on February 13, 2013
for the all the students from PP –II to the IX. It was conducted by Smiline
Dental Hospital, Srinagar Colony; a panel of doctors and assistants were
present to examine and advise the students about their dental health. They also
showed a powerpoint presentation on the process of brushing for the PPII
students.
THE FRENCH VISITORS (12/2/2013)
The 12th of February, 2013 was a
remarkable day in Orchids. Not every day we can have the French interacting
with the students studying French as a second or third language. Mrs Monique
Dattrino, Mr Rene Dattrino, Mrs Ghislaine Gomes and Mr Michel Gomes visited the
school, attended the morning assembly and spent some time interacting with the
students of classes I-V and VI- IX separately. They explained to the students
their food, their monuments, festivals and their tour in India. They visited
several places from Benares to Goa and expressed their delight. They responded
to the questions posed by the eager students who were thrilled to meet the
French natives. The French also expressed their happiness of interaction with
Indians and Indian students of French.
