National Science Day

National Science Day

National Science Day is celebrated on the 28th February 2014 to commemorate the invention of the ‘Raman Effect’ by Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata  Raman, the noted physicist.
As a mark of respect for Sir C.V. Raman, Orchids organized a special programme in which some students of classes V to IX conducted different experiments to demonstrate the various principles of science that make the subject interesting.
It was followed by a very enthusiastic debate by some students of classes VIII and IX in which they argued on the topic, ‘Is technology a boon or bane in the modern era’.
It was altogether a very lively presentation and discussion.

Extempore Speech Competition

The Extempore Speech Competition was held on 8-2-2014 for the students of Classes VI to IX. Five students from each class were chosen to participate in the competition.
The students of Classes VI and VII had a new concept. The slips of paper that the participants picked did not have a quote/topic but instead, had an object written on them. The mentioned object was shown to the participant who was given a minute to observe it before speaking about it.
The students of Class VIII had to speak on varied topics while the students of Class IX had the pick of thought provoking idioms and sayings.  It was a very interesting competition in which all the participants got the opportunity to express their ideas and thoughts in a very creative and imaginative way.
