Prefects' Council Election (30/6/2012)

With June ending and July just round the corner, the school is buzzing with excitement. What for? Well, elections of course!
For the second time in Orchidian history, democracy reigns and the Prefects’ Council elections are taking place at the School and House levels. Over the course of the last ten days, prospective Head Girls and Head Boys of class X persuaded the students to vote for them through speeches, while nominated House Captains spoke to their Houses- Carnation, Daffodil, Marigold and Tulip- about the same. Along with the Captains, Vice-captains of Class IX are also voted for. Other important appointments include Cultural Secretary, Sports Captain and Discipline Incharge.
30th June, 2012, Election Day, has finally arrived. Pictures of the nominees have been taken and ballot boxes have been readied. All that’s left is the final casting of votes. Students of classes VI-X of Orchids-The International School are eagerly waiting to vote and welcome the Prefects’ Council of 2012. However, we also know that more than the outcome, the enriching experience of elections is important.

The students of classes VI - IX had the privilege of participating in a very interesting and interactive presentation on an awareness of music and musical instruments by Mr Marthand and team, from Academia International music foundation.
He gave a detailed presentation on the types of musical instruments besides speaking about the importance of music. He also specified that students who learnt classical music improved by 20% in their academics as observed in the past 20 years.
The session ended with a video of orchestra by TED in Venezuela, which was played by orphans under 18 in CARACAS – Venezuela .  Students could identify the instruments that were listed earlier in the session through this video.
A flyer and an enquiry form were given to all students to be filled and returned to respective class teachers, in case the child is interested in learning any of the musical instruments.
